From making grants to building partnerships, our values inform our decisions and guide our actions—both externally in our approach to grantmaking and internally in our policy and governance practices.
Trust:
We believe our partners should have the freedom to do their work on their own terms.
Equity:
We support historically marginalized communities as they work to dismantle systemic inequities.
Community:
We proactively prioritize belonging, inclusion, and connection.
Grousemont is directed by a Board of Trustees and staffed by Sound Philanthropy.

Memorable Grantmaking Moment:
Removing barriers to our grantmaking has been incredibly rewarding. Hearing grantees respond with surprise and appreciation that grants are multi-year, unrestricted, and come with no strings attached is powerful, perhaps because the nonprofit world is used to being required to justify their value. Our commitment to trust-based giving is an attempt to convey our admiration, appreciation, and confidence in the services they provide to our community.
Why I love the Puget Sound region:
I love that the Puget Sound region is full of individuals who believe there is a better way to do things, but with a certain humility layered in. I've seen it in various forms: people who'll argue hard for a better idea, then hand off the credit. That's the community I want this work to be accountable to.

Adam Fisher
Memorable Grantmaking Moment:It was so meaningful to be able to visit with the Duwamish River Coalition to see how Grousemont's grantmaking through the Climate and Environmental Justice committee has helped support their transformative work to revitalize the Duwamish River and the communities that rely on it.
Why I love the Puget Sound region:
My favorite thing about the Puget Sound Region are its forests, mountains, and waterways and all of the life that these natural spaces support.

Kate Janeway
Memorable Grantmaking Moment:Grousemont’s significant early grant to support The Nature Conservancy’s land return to the Quinault Tribe is a source of tremendous pride.
Why I love the Puget Sound region:
For me, the greatest treasure of the Pacific Northwest is the health of its natural ecosystems.

Sally Wright
Memorable Grantmaking Moment:A memorable part of our grantmaking for me was touring the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic and seeing firsthand the breadth of programs supporting children and families. I love that our philanthropy allows us to be good stewards of Seattle and supporting civic places that make our community better.
Why I love the Puget Sound region:
My favorite thing about the greater Puget Sound region is the incredible combination of water, mountains, and lush greenery all within reach. I love the mild climate and the beauty of being surrounded by nature.

Memorable Grantmaking Moment:Supporting Kitsap Immigrant Assistance Center (KIAC) is meaningful to me because our grant helped fund an ongoing paralegal position, allowing them to process more legal cases for immigrants. Increasing KIAC’s capacity to handle these complex legal matters has helped more individuals secure asylum and more families stay together.
Why I love the Puget Sound region:
I love the Puget Sound area for its incredible combination of natural beauty and vibrant culture. Having mountains, water, and green spaces alongside great arts, food, and community makes it a truly special place to live.

Korynne Wright
Memorable Grantmaking Moment:I’m proud of Grousemont’s leadership grant to launch the University of Washington Sisterhood Initiative.
Why I love the Puget Sound region:
I’m reminded of the profound natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest every day that I look out at the mountains and water.
